Texas Top Legal Officer Files Lawsuit Against Tylenol Manufacturers Concerning Autism Spectrum Claims

Legal Proceedings
The Texas Attorney General, a Trump ally who is running for the United States Senate, accused pharmaceutical manufacturers of hiding the risks of acetaminophen

Texas Attorney General Paxton is taking legal action against the producers of acetaminophen, claiming the firms withheld potential risks that the pain reliever created to pediatric neurological development.

The court filing follows four weeks after Donald Trump publicized an unverified association between taking Tylenol - also known as paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

Paxton is suing J&J, which previously sold the drug, the exclusive pain medication recommended for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which presently makes it.

In a declaration, he stated they "betrayed America by making money from pain and marketing drugs ignoring the potential hazards."

The company asserts there is lacking scientific proof tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These corporations lied for decades, deliberately risking millions to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

The company stated officially that it was "seriously troubled by the spread of false claims on the safety of paracetamol and the potential impact that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its website, Kenvue also stated it had "regularly reviewed the applicable studies and there is insufficient valid information that shows a established connection between taking acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations speaking for physicians and medical practitioners concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated acetaminophen - the primary component in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to address discomfort and fever, which can present significant medical dangers if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of research on the use of acetaminophen in gestation, no reliable research has conclusively proven that the usage of acetaminophen in any stage of pregnancy leads to neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring," the group commented.

This legal action cites latest statements from the Trump administration in claiming the medication is potentially dangerous.

Recently, Trump raised alarms from public health officials when he advised expectant mothers to "fight like hell" not to take Tylenol when ill.

The US Food and Drug Administration then released a statement that medical professionals should think about restricting the usage of Tylenol, while also stating that "a proven link" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been proven.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who supervises the FDA, had vowed in spring to undertake "a massive testing and research effort" that would establish the cause of autism in a short period.

But authorities warned that discovering a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the result of a complicated interplay of genetic and environmental factors - would be difficult.

Autism is a type of enduring cognitive variation and impairment that impacts how people perceive and relate to the world, and is diagnosed using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - aligned with the former president who is running for the Senate - claims the manufacturer and J&J "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the evidence" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

The lawsuit attempts to require the corporations "eliminate any marketing or advertising" that states acetaminophen is secure for women during pregnancy.

The Texas lawsuit echoes the grievances of a collection of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in recently.

Judicial authorities rejected the lawsuit, declaring studies from the plaintiffs' authorities was not conclusive.
