Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt able to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, commenting that he could not remember "one day without mirth".
"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles judge decided to prevent the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate issued a security hold on the investigation to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of murder, with a record citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
Following the tragedy, public figures offered divergent comments.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering divisive claims that were widely condemned by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the detractors recently. Conversing on his program, Rogan described the remarks as "disturbing" and implied they demonstrated a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by remarking that an adviser should have stepped in when the impulse to weigh in on the passing was made.
