Colts Battle Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10
Guten tag, football enthusiasts. How are you? Everything good I hope on this excellent morning kickoff to the tenth week coming directly from Deutschland. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (seven wins and two losses) take on the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on German soil and the first in the capital city.
Pregame Highlights
As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A slight fluff from Sky Sports there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an accidentally live microphone.
So, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have elected to receive. Daniel Jones and company will be setting up shortly. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in their last game?
In a similar vein the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are ever likely to see. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choir performance for the national anthem of Germany. Classy.
Opening Period Gameplay
Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter
Here we go! And we have an exciting start after Jonathan Taylor catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right then fumbles … only for his center to save his bacon with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter
And the drama keeps coming as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The gamble fails to pay off as the wide receiver cannot reel in a quick pass from the quarterback. On the play before the turnover on downs Jessie Bates put a massive tackle on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
Score Updates
First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was very open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That moment reflects the high draft pick's professional journey to date.
A disappointing start but it only deteriorates for the Falcons as they cough the ball back to the Colts on the 23-yard line. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and fumbles the football.
An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets Jonathan Taylor up to easily run for a touchdown on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07
Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some chunky receptions to put them in the red zone then the seas part for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. He completes the drive for a one-yard touchdown of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
Other Tenth Week Games
Additionally, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (home teams listed first) is as follows:
(5-4) Panthers v Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Bears v New York Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Minnesota Vikings v Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) New York Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the game of the day.
